Maui's fertile volcanic soils and warm temperatures all year round make it an obvious choice for beautiful botanical gardens. As you might expect there are several on island and open to the public and all of them feature native Hawaiian plants.
The various locations of each of these gardens around the island provide visitors a unique opportunity to observe an incredibly diverse collection of tropical climates and the plants that inhabit them.
Each botanical collection reflects the particular passions of the people who manage them as well as their aethetic sensibilities. Some of our botanical gardens take inspiration for their landscaping from the amazing beauty of Japanese botanical gardens, others from European sensibilities, and some strive for a less formal landscape managing their collections to preserve their natural appeal.
If you aren't a botanist, gardener, or naturalist, you might wonder: why would I be interested in botanical gardens?
For starters, even if you couldn't tell the difference between a rose and a tulip, you can still appreciate the manic purple riot that is a Jacaranda tree in full bloom (photos simply don't do the color justice) or the majesty of a mature Banyan tree's huge canopy.
Secondly, botanical gardens are great places for weddings. Many people flock to our island every year to get "Maui'd".
